VTT The Repairing Process

Grease your chain:

The chain should be regularly lubricated to prevent corrosion and wear and tear. Use a specially designed lubricating oil for bicycle chains and apply a small amount to each link.

Inflate your tyres:

The tires should be inflated to the pressure recommended by the manufacturer, to avoid punctures and improve bike performance. You can find the pressure guidelines on the tire. Use a pressure gauge to check the pressure and adjust it if necessary by using a hand pump or foot pump.

Check your brakes:

The brakes should be regularly checked to be sure they are functioning properly and to prevent accidents. Check the brake pads or discs (depending on your bike) to make sure they are not worn out and are functioning correctly.

Check your saddle height:

For casual riders, when you sit on your saddle with the pedal closest to the ground, your leg should be fully extended.

For maths fans, the most well-known method is to measure your inseam height and multiply it by 0.885. The resulting value will give you the best theoretical height saddle for you.

Cleaning:

It is important to clean your bike to prevent the accumulation of dirt, dust, mud, or sand that can damage the bike components. Use water and mild soap to clean the frame, wheels, chain, and components. Remember to thoroughly dry sensitive parts such as bearings, the mountain bike transmission, and suspensions with a cloth to prevent rust. Pro tip: don’t use a high-pressure cleaner as it can damage seals, bearings, paint, or stickers.

Chain lubrication:

After your ride, remember to clean your chain with a suitable product and a clean cloth. Then, the chain should be lubricated again to preserve it and make it last longer.
